Joseph Alexander Smith MA Cantab, MSc born 5 February 1985, is a British journalist, linguist and businessman. Smith resides in Georgia and is co-director of the American Language School in Tbilisi, Georgia. He works as a freelance journalist and has written numerous articles for the English language newspaper Georgia Today and other news outlets, he has appeared on several Georgian television channels. In 2014 as a guest on Georgia's Palitra Television, he discussed Scottish Independence. Smith is passionate about Georgian conservation and writes for the Caucasus Nature Fund amongst other publications. In January and again in August 2015 he was published in the World of Interiors magazine. In June 2015 Smith achieved international status for his radio programme "Georgia's war on poaching" which was broadcast on Germany's Deutsche Welle. He wrote an accompanying article entitled "Can Georgia win its war on poaching?". In the wake of the 2015 Tbilisi Flood, Smith was one of the few journalists to explore the human cost of the disaster rather than the loss of animal life.
